Do most people you know want a job and basic economic security, or a casino global economy for the wealthy?

August 3rd, 2010

Most people I know need a job or are happy to have one they hate.
They would gladly trade global capitalism, and all its billionaires and useless consumer crap for a simpler system that would provide for their basic needs.

I think most people feel that way. In a democracy, it’s hard to see how we’re not going to get our way sometime soon.
Yes, the word is "Majority"
You make think they’re wrong Bob, but this is a democracy.

Most people better hope for the former and that is getting harder to come by.

But so many people have been brainwashed into thinking that one day, they will be the guy or girl in the Limo. Maybe this is caused by watching too much TV. Or the wrong TV shows.

My Mother called it "keeping up with the Jones".

It seems like many people are deluded into thinking that there is someting wrong with being just an ordinary chump with a little house and a job, that he has to be somebody.

But that’s just me. I love being a Nobody.

What career opportunities are available for me in Italy?

August 3rd, 2010

I’m a CPA with about 9 years of experience working for various agencies within the U.S. Federal, State, and Local government dealing primarily in audits of federal programs, budgets, and financial analyses for the planning of Local governments.
I’m also fluent in Italian and have a dual citizenship with Italy because my mom was an Italian citizen when she had me before she became a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Anyway, my first choice to move to is Rome…and I was wondering if anyone had any insights for possible career opportunities considering my background.

Thank you very much!

Being the economic situation as bad as it is, which further worsen the already high unemployment rates that characterise Italy, i’d say the best jobs one can found at the moment is CALL CENTRES, SHOP ASSISTANT, RESTAURANT WAITER and a few others. It’s far from being a joke.

Nonetheless, if you have "friends" your chances to find a good job increase. That’s why many italians leave. We don’t lack jobs in Italy. The problem is that those jobs are ALL TAKEN and inherited from dad to son and so forth.

Good luck

Why am I seeing job postings where some paralegals are making more than associate attorneys?

August 3rd, 2010

When looking at legal job postings, I see a lot of posts for paralegals. Some of the salaries are more than associate attorneys I know are making. Some are even more than senior lawyers I know make at small law firms, and definitely more than a lot of solo attorney I know.

Why is this? Are paralegals becoming more valuable than attorneys to some companies? Do you think this profession will continue to grow and evolve? Will they become more valuable and make more money?

Also I am talking "real" paralegal positions here, not legal assistant jobs or legal secretaries.

Super experienced paralegals in some specialized fields (IP is the big one, although there are others) could be more valuable than beginning attorneys and thus earn more, especially in the small firm environment. Solo practitioners are a whole separate deal as they usually set their own rates and a large percentage of their earnings is going towards office space, etc.

Specialized paralegals will probably continue to be valuable because they cost the client less money and are usually paid less. A good, experienced paralegal can handle a fair amount of work that would otherwise be given to a first or second year associate and the billable hour charge will be less than half that for the attorney. Both the client and the firm win.

Will a company look at a job application before the deadline has passed?

August 3rd, 2010

I’m a recent graduate and I’m currently applying for full-time jobs. The job that I really want, however, does not have it’s deadline for another 2 months! Is it possible that they will look at my application before then and let me know whether or not i’m suitable for the job?

Thanks all.

Whilst most places have a ‘closing date’, chances are they will look at applications as they come in …

These days, with 80-100 applications for every graduate job, the unsuccessful applicants are often never contacted ..

Hi I’m a 23 stay at home mom of a 6 month old and 2 yr old and in desperate need of a legit work at home job.?

August 3rd, 2010

I have been on the search of a good work at home job but can’t seem to find one that isn’t a scam. Does anyone know of any legit work at home job that I can try out. Please help!

many call centers offer work from home jobs. If you don’t mind telemarketing or customr service jobs where people order products and you just type in the information. I use to work for InfoCision (a call center) and they have work from home opportunities, I didn’t work from home but I know they offer it. 1 800 flowers has work from home opportunities too. It should be on their website.

Anyway….InfoCision is a great company to work for. I enjoyed working for them. Go to their website and under careers you’ll see work from home opportunities.
