Career opportunities in New Zealand for social workers?

February 8th, 2010

I am thinking of moving to New Zealand for a few years (at least) and was wondering what the career opportunities were like for newly qualified social workers - especially ones who have a back ground in residential child care. I’m a 41 year old male.

Hey …..make sure you get all the correct info before you get there….
We went in 2008 and had to move back in 2009 as my daughter’s qualifications were not recognised in the country….hmm seemed very odd to us as she has been a Paramedic in the British Army for 10yrs and has 8 NVQ’s in various other duties……
They would not extend her visa so we had to come back! We had visa’s but couldn’t sponsor her for a futher 2yrs.
The wages are half ours here and the cost of living is the same!!
There is an ‘English Shop’ where you can buy goodies that your missing but honestly they charge you a fortune….ie) Weetabix here is approx £1.20 but from the shop it was $10 which was about £4 at the time!!
    Do your research hun…..

    Good Luck ;-)
