Secure your contract

Key tips to securing your next contract

Making a good impression during the whole recruitment
process is important, even more so as a contractor.

Here are the key tips to convince a prospective employer that you’re the
one for the contract, remember as a contractor you are selling your
services you need to prove you can perform and get the job done!

Availability

This is key in the world of contracting make sure you get to the first interview they offer to make sure you get seen

If you cannot make it suggest an initial telephone interview.

Know when you are available to start a contract, if they need someone quick try and be flexible, even if you offer your service part time to start with.

The Agency

Make sure you use respected agencies.

Research on the agencies you deal to make sure they will be working in the interest of both you and the employer.

Try and build up a relationship with them, after all they will be recommending you so the more they know about you the better.

References

Always keep your references up to date

Ensure your agencies have copies of your references so they can be used immediately.

Keep in contact with past employers/referees so they can be called upon as and when required.

The Interview

Carry an extra copy of your CV with you – just in case.

Make eye contact. It shows that you are focused and confident

Show interest in, and enthusiasm for, the company.

Dress professionally. ‘Professional’ can mean so many things these days. Basically, whether the company’s dress code is formal or casual, make an effort to look presentable and well groomed. It matters.

Try to keep your answers down to 60 seconds. You don’t want to be monosyllabic, but long-winded replies will make the employer lose interest and you might lose your own thread.

Listen carefully and answer questions directly. If you are unclear about a question, ask the interviewer to clarify.

Be prepared to discuss how what you’ve done in the past will affect how you’ll perform in a future role. Give examples that demonstrate your value.

Ask questions. Sharp questions will show that you are proactive and want to make sure that this company is the right place for you.

And finally, Good Luck
