Can a truck driver loose his job for 1 speeding ticket?
May 27th, 2010
I was wondering, while employed with a trucking company and you get your first speeding ticket while driving the truck, can you loose your job from this?
Plus you also had a speeding ticket prior to your employment, but with your own car.
I’m a class A CDL driver and I have a couple of tickets…I’m still driving for the same company. The only way you would loose job is to have an accident while speeding or have too many points on your driving record….which for cdl drivers includes their personnal vehicles also.

Of course they can.
Transportation companies want drivers with immaculate records, especially considering the increasing costs of fuel, etc.
So given the choice between someone with no tickets, and one with….the one with will lose their job, and be replaced.
Especially seeing as the violation happened while on the job….

This actuality depends upon to different criteria. One is the company and its policies regarding violations. Some are more liberal and others far more stringent. This depends upon their safety department. The other aspect is the level of violation. Some companies feel that 15mph over is a major violation. This can get you fired or not hired.
Is it possible? Yes. In this still slow albeit improving economy we the drivers are still in a poor position when it comes to how we are treated by our respective companies. As the economy improves and the demand for qualified drivers increases this too can change.

Yes,depending of severity of offense.
like driving at 50 mph in a 25 mph school zone.
Anything above 15 mph over the speed limit is considered severe speeding, and it can result in a court date.
Judge depending on your driving record might decide to suspend your license.
No license=no job.

ok you can loose your job for one speeding ticket you are not guaranteed a job any where, and if they are a specialty carrier may have that in there employment policy, or if the speeding ticket is considered to high over the speed limit, depends what the safety policy is
